Who runs Not your Basic Shop
Not your Basic Shop is run by Pavel Krustev, an individual based in the Netherlands. You can reach us at hello@notyourbasicshop.com.
What Not your Basic Shop is
Not your Basic Shop is a free catalog of products and services made or offered by parents and caregivers of children with disabilities. Every listing links to the seller's own website or page. Not your Basic Shop has no buyer accounts, no shopping cart, no payments and no orders. When you follow a link you leave Not your Basic Shop, and the privacy rules of that website apply instead of these.
What is public and what is private
A seller's public profile shows the nickname they chose, their seller ID, their country, their profile photo, their introduction, the links they added, the month and year they became a seller, and their listings. Their real first name and their email address are never shown publicly: only the seller and the administrator can see them.
What we keep, and why
- Your account: your email address, your password as a one-way hash, the language of your account, and whether you accepted the Terms. We need this to let you log in and to send you the messages the service depends on.
- Your seller application: your first name, nickname, country, profile photo, optional introduction and links, and your declaration that you are a parent or caregiver caring for a child with disabilities. We need this to review the application. We store the declaration itself and never ask for or keep any detail about the child.
- Your listings: title, description, category, price and currency or Price on request, the external link, the images and the shipping or availability details. These are public once the listing is published.
- Images: every image you upload is re-encoded, and all of its metadata, including any GPS location, is removed before it is stored.
- Messages, reports and contact inquiries: what you write, and the email address you give so that we can answer — the reporter's in a report, yours in a Contact message.
- Moderation: if the administrator blocks a listing or your account, we keep that decision and the reason for it while it is in force, together with any appeal you send.
- Signing in and security: each session stores the IP address the request came from and your browser's user agent. Counters tied to an IP address or to a hashed value limit how often forms and logins can be used. We need this to keep accounts and forms safe from abuse.
- Cookies: a session cookie while you are signed in, and a cookie that remembers the site language you chose. Not your Basic Shop uses no analytics, no advertising and no tracking cookies.
Who else processes it
| Who | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Hostinger | hosting, database, backups and email | European Union: servers in Frankfurt, backups in France |
| DeepL | machine translation of public text | Germany |
| GitHub (Microsoft) | source code and automated tests | no data from the live site |
Only text that is public, or about to be public, is sent to DeepL: listing titles and descriptions, seller introductions, category names, the descriptions of partner organizations, the texts of the interface, and the texts the administrator writes for the home page and the Become a seller page. Private messages, reports, contact inquiries, the reasons the administrator writes and these legal pages are never sent for translation.
How long we keep it
Your account and profile stay as long as the account exists. These are removed automatically, by a job that runs once a day:
- a listing you deleted: 30 days after you deleted it, or sooner if your account is deleted
- a closed report, and the reporter's data with it: 30 days after it is closed
- a closed contact inquiry: 30 days after it is closed
- a closed conversation and its replies: 30 days after it is closed
- a notification in your Dashboard: 30 days after it appeared
- a profile change once it is decided, cancelled or replaced: 30 days after that; the value that was approved stays on your profile
- an account that never confirmed its email address: 30 days after sign-up
- an account that confirmed its address but never submitted an application: 30 days after the confirmation
Expired sessions and expired links stop working at once, and their records go with the next daily run. Security counters go within 24 hours of the last request, and an image no longer used by any profile, listing or request goes with the first daily run after it is more than 24 hours old.
A block has no clock: while the administrator's block on a listing or an account is in force, the decision and its reason stay.
Whenever an image stops being public — because a listing was hidden, blocked or deleted, because a seller was blocked, or because an account is waiting to be deleted — it can still be served from our hosting provider's content network for up to an hour afterwards.
Deleting your account
An approved seller can ask for deletion in My profile. The profile and all listings stop being shown immediately, and until the deletion is carried out you can still log in, write to the administrator and cancel the request. Deletion removes the account, the profile, the photos, every listing, the messages and any pending requests, and we send one confirmation email. It cannot be undone.
One thing outlasts the deletion itself: copies in our hosting provider's backups, which go when those backups expire on the provider's own schedule.
Asking for access or deletion
Write to hello@notyourbasicshop.com and we will answer. Not your Basic Shop is run by one person, so please allow a few days.
